You’ve gone through labor and delivered your sweet little bundle of joy, and have some time home with them.
Most of this time will hopefully be spent sleeping on and off, making sure you sleep when baby sleeps, but we know that doesn’t always happen the way we wish it would, especially if you have other kids.
If you are wondering what movies you should be watching when you have time to kill while nursing your little babe, here are some of my favorites:

Baby Mama
Okay, this one has been my favorite since it came out in 2008 before I was even thinking about having a baby of my own. Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler are magic together and they put a hilarious twist on the joys and struggles of pregnancy, labor, and motherhood.
If you need a good laugh, definitely go with Baby Mama.
What to Expect When You’re Expecting
This movie really brings all the feels. It follows the story of five different families who are expecting a baby. I love how each journey is so different but still relatable. The cast of well-known actors share the limelight very well.
This one will have you laughing and crying, but feeling altogether warm afterward.
Where the Heart Is
This is a cutesie movie about a naive, pregnant, young girl who gets ditched by her bf/baby daddy at a WalMart and ends up secretly living there until she has the baby. It’s about the strength of single moms trying to find their own way for themselves and for their babies.
Knocked Up
Though crude, this is a fun movie to watch when you need a laugh and just feel like watching some drama! One fun night turns into a lot of responsibility to take care of, like forever. Love the cast in this one!
Now the oldies, but goodies…
Baby Boom
Diane Keaton is amazing in everything she does, including this one. I love how this movie shows how much of a whirlwind of change a baby makes in your life. Nothing is ever the same after a baby, (and for all the best reasons!)
Look Who’s Talking
I remember loving this movie as a kid, and not understanding a lot of it until I was older. The idea of the thoughts behind a baby’s actions is really funny to watch. To watch the whole trilogy, include Look Who’s Talking Too and Looking Who’s Talking Now in your list.
Three Men and A Baby
Moms do most of the baby work in general, and we imagine how the guys would handle doing everything without us; this is the movie to see how that would go. Super adorable and funny. The sequel is Three Men and A Little Lady.
Mr. Mom
This one’s also along the lines of Three Men and A Baby, where the dad stays home and Mom goes to work. I love the ironing of the grilled cheese part lol! Just like a dad to do that.
These are the other favorites that make me happy any time, any day, pregnant, nursing, not getting any sleep, you name it! These are my go-to’s:
The Family Stone
My bestie and I LOVE this movie and would watch it all the time when we lived in the same city and saw each other often. Now we will watch it and tell the other one, so it feels like we’re still watching it together, sort of.
If you haven’t seen this one, I highly recommend it. It’s about a family of five adult children visiting their parents for Christmas, along with their spouses and one very awkward girlfriend (Sara Jessica Parker). Another Diane Keaton goodie (again, she is the best ever). Watch it now!
Julie and Julia
Another favorite of mine and my bestie’s. You follow the story of Julie “cooking her way through” Julia Child’s cookbook and blogging about it. Amy Adams is adorable and inspiring.
Sex and the City: The Movie
The show is always great to watch, too. Just a bunch of strong-willed, smart women making their lives their own while keeping their friendship intact over the years. There’s also Sex and the City 2, which was criticized for not being as good as the first one, but I still like it and will watch it whenever.
Something Borrowed
I enjoyed this movie so much when it came out that I went to the theater multiple times to see it, and at least once was by myself. Although the premise is based on cheating, the movie is made very well. The point is to speak up before it’s too late and claim what you want to be yours BEFORE it’s someone else’s.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Something about lifelong friendships does the heart good. Following these girls’ summer makes you feel like you’re a part of their story. And don’t forget Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2! These are apparently based on a book set of four! I did not know that and now have added them to my reading list.
First Wives Club
Just a few wronged women taking their control back in the best way possible! You can’t help but feel strong and amazing when watching this one. And You Don’t Own Me will be stuck in your head for a while.
The Notebook
I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for Nicholas Sparks’ stories. And for Ryan Gosling (enter heart eyes gif and emoji here). Cute story, and a happy fairytale ending. It’ll do your heart some good.
The Twilight Saga
Guilty pleasure, maybe? I don’t care, I loved these movies and watched them while on maternity leave and while pumping in the mother’s room at work. They bring me back to good times with good friends. The books are great, too, but of course, you are just trying to watch something to veg out on and relax.
Any Christmas Movie Ever
Christmas is just a heart-warming time and brings back happy memories. It doesn’t have to be December to watch Christmas movies. Get your favorite and turn it on. It’ll make your tired eyes happy eyes.
And there you have it, my recommendations for movies to watch while on maternity leave. I hope you enjoy whichever one you decide to watch!
